Three Churches Compete in Pumpkin Launching Contest

Posted: Updated:

Three different denominations join together in a holy war of launching pumpkins.

Located at a farm up northeast of Washburn, a pumpkin catapult contest is really taking off.

Members of the Methodist, Lutheran and Catholic churches all competed against each other by building a catapult aand seeing which one could pelt one of ten pumpkins the farthest.

"We threw the pumpkin as far as we could."

"In my country we don't celebrate Halloween so lots of new experiences and I really like it here." says Vlad Cherevkov, Ukranian exchange student.

"It's just thrilling and you know we don't have a mall or a movie theatre up here so we have to have something to do, right?" says Jill Wiese, member of Methodist church.

At least 30 pumpkins were catapulted into the field, and it came down to the last pumpkin with the Catholics beating the Methodists by a short distance at 173 feet.
