Red Ribbons Decorate Trees Around Capitol Grounds

Posted: Updated:

Students Against Destructive Decisions join together at the Capitol building to remind everyone what week it is.

Members of SADD, or students against destructive decisions, are adorning around 24 trees at the Capitol with red ribbons.

It's red ribbon week starting Monday--a week where young people are encouraged to say no to drugs and alcohol.

Some students from Century High School say they want to raise awareness on drug and alcohol use to all ages who pass by the capitol grounds.

"It's kind of like a reminder to the whole city rather than just the high school what red ribbon week is, so we're expanding our audience." says Mandy Jordan, senior.

"Having adults that support us, makes it easier for everything." says Kaleb Mogard, sophomore.

Monday at Century, all 1558 students will get a red ribbon with a number on it.

They are encouraged to hold onto it all week, and if they do they might win a prize on Friday.
