Lincoln Police Chief Dismissed

Tonight the Lincoln City Council votes to dismiss their Police Chief.

Marcel Sim currently has a restraining order against him through December 2014.

According to his wife, Sim caused a bruise to his three-year-old daughter.

She says he also threw her on a bed and threatened to stab her.

Tonight the Lincoln City Hall was packed as residents of the small community showed up to hear the council's decision.

Most of the residents who showed up to the meeting were in favor of Sim being dismissed as their police chief.

"There's a reason why Sims has a restraining order there's a reason why he's worked many places and we now have a school that needs to be protected and if our cop has a restraining order what does that tell us? And now the city of Bismarck is looking at us and wanting to know, should they move to Lincoln and if we have a cop that has a restraining order why would you move here," Toni Zainhofsky said.

The vote was three to two in favor of dismissing Sim.

Mayor Robert Johnston says the council is hired to do what is in the best interest of the city.

"It's been painful, painful for me personally I think it's been painful for everyone on the board, painful for Marcel, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do, we were hired to do what is in the best interest of the city and the board decided tonight that the action was the best interest of the city," Lincoln Mayor Robert Johnston said.

Sim had been on Administrative leave since September 25th.
