Minot Parks Progress After Flood

Posted: Updated:

Two years ago, Minot parks were flooded with water.

Now, they're filled with grass and leaves - and that's a sign of progress.

After the 2011 flood, the Minot Park District had to start from scratch with 13 parks and 60 buildings along the river getting destroyed or damaged.

There are certain trails and buildings that still need some work, and that will be done going into this winter, and spring of 2014.

But according to Minot Park District Executive Director Ron Merritt, this was a big year in terms of getting those tasks completed, and almost finishing restoration in all areas of damage.

(Ron Merritt, Executive Director of Park District) "People that use our facilities are all happy and excited to be able to use them again. It feels more like Minot again after the flood, and I know a lot of home owners are still going through struggles and we are as well, but we're all getting through it and it's a good feeling.

Merritt says that since most restorations are finished, they are focusing on ideas for the parks that they had before the flood.
