BIS-Man Chamber Businesses Weigh In On Healthcare Law Impact

Posted: Updated:

The Bismarck-Mandan business community weighs-in on healthcare.  In a survey by the Chamber, members are asked how implementation of the Affordable Care Act impacts business -- and how prepared they are moving forward.

In North Dakota, where challenges already exist, local businesses say the Affordable Care Act likely makes one thing in particular more difficult, due to unknown costs.

"Obviously, one of those is going to be the concern about how's that going to impact their hiring.  Are their premiums, as we hear the debate going on nationally, are their premiums going to go up for their healthcare and how are they going to have to factor that into businesses?" says Kelvin Hullet, President, Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce.

According to the survey, about 60 percent of Chamber members "strongly agree" or "somewhat agree" the Affordable Care Act will make it more difficult for them to hire.  On the other hand, that same number -- about 60 percent -- says they are "somewhat prepared" or "very prepared" to implement the law.
