Donor Enables Mobility Challenged to Enjoy "Smithsonian of the Plains"

Posted: Updated:

Getting around won't be as difficult for mobility challenged visitors when a double-the-size Heritage Center opens next year.

A local medical center sees to it with the donation of six scooters and wheelchairs.  St. Alexius Great Plains Rehabilitation Services wants visitors to be able to take in the entirety of what the new 97,000 square foot Heritage Center has to offer.

"This is a big place, and it's a neat place.  It's first class.  It's the Smithsonian of the Plains, and by allowing people with these scooters and wheelchairs to come in here, we can make sure that everybody has the same access as you and I to this great facility," says Karl Lembke, Development Officer, State Historical Society of North Dakota.

A grand opening is set for November 2, 2014.  However, the Heritage Center expects to welcome visitors as early as March.
