A pipeline responsible for the largest oil spill on U.S. Soil is ready to carry oil once again...
Tesoro Corp. says it has received permission from federal regulators to restart a pipeline that ruptured and is responsible for the largest oil leak in state history.
More than 20,000 barrels of oil spilled into a North Dakota farm field northeast of Tioga in late September.
Tesoro announced the restart today.
The company says it has accepted a safety order from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration that sets conditions to restart the pipeline.
A farmer discovered the spill while harvesting a wheat field.
Tesoro says the damaged portion of the pipeline was removed and sent to an independent laboratory for analysis.
Federal regulators say a preliminary investigation shows a lightning strike might have caused the rupture.
