Moving In At New Ramstad

Posted: Updated:

One month from now, a brand new middle school will be in use in Minot.

Ramstad Middle School is due to accept students beginning December 2nd.

That means between now and then, there'll be a lot of moving to be done to relocate from the temporary location at the Auditorium.

The first major part of that move began today - with the Ramstad Library beginning to take shape at its new home.

This forklift is carrying more than boxes...it's lifting a milestone...the first materials to be moved from the old Ramstad Middle School to its new location north of Minot.

(Ione Sautner, Ramstad Principal) "It's a pretty exciting day."

Exciting because the books and other items inside these boxes will soon have a new home - in the library at the beautiful new school.

(Ione Sautner, Ramstad Principal) "It's a major task packing up a school library. I think there's about 200 boxes."

The library is the first place to be moved into because it can be fairly easily shut down at the existing temporary home for Ramstad at the Auditorium.

(Ione Sautner, Ramstad Principal) "We closed our library last Friday. They did a push to get kids to check out multiple books so they would have reading material for this time."

And so the men rolled boxes into the new space and hunted for their proper resting spots to make it easier for librarians to do the unpacking. Assistant Librarian Barb Sanden says the new library will include lots of high technology too.

(Barb Sanden, Ramstad Asst. Librarian) "There will be computers over there and we have the smart boards and it's all wired for wireless internet."

And while she is documenting what's happening here, many other spaces are taking shape too at the new Ramstad. Including the kitchen and commons area where the principal says the staff is itching to get going.

(Ione Sautner, Ramstad Principal) "I know the lunchroom staff plans to be working so they can serve meals the first day and do their cooking the first time."

So what's it like moving an entire school from one location to another? Sautner is a veteran of such a transition, having overseen the move to the new Washington Elementary. And she says her staff is ready to make it happen here.

(Ione Sautner, Ramstad Principal) "I know it will be pulled off without a hitch."

At the new Ramstad Middle School, Jim Olson, KX News.

There'll be an unusually-long Thanksgiving break for Minot Public Schools this year - a full week off classes - to allow time to finish the moving in process at the new Ramstad so that classes can begin December 2nd.
