Mandan Debuts Its First Assisted Living Facility

Posted:

As Bismarck/Mandan continues to grow...it's no surprise there's a need for senior housing.

Mandan is taking this step, debuting its first ever assisted living facility.

"Leonard, we got company."

Katherine and Leonard have lived in their apartment at Lakewood Landing since August 7.

"We love it here. Mhmm," says Katherine Combs, Resident.

It's an assisted living facility brand new to Mandan.

Currently 11 residents live in the building.

"At the present time the 11 residents that we have have all come by word of mouth or just stopping in and now that we are getting a little more known out in the community, we do have several people, you know, waiting for admission," says Sharon Schwahn, Facility Manager, Lakewood Landing.

This waiting list is no surprise to the growing community.

"Almost all of the facilities here were running full. And so we thought well maybe there is a need of something that we can contribute to the community and add our type of facility and our type of philosophy," says Susan Bala, CEO/Owner, Lakewood Landing.

"We like everything here. We like the staff. They're very, very personable. And there's a certain feeling of home," says Katherine Combs.

"People have to, number one, have a sense of home and community. It's just important for everyone's well being and so we really wanted to achieve that first. And then they need to have great food, and great healthcare, and then they need to have some fun," says Bala.

All of these elements make this facility Katherine and Leonard's forever home.

And they're very content.

"And we set here at certain times of the evening and look out and see the geese fly," says Leonard.

Lakewood Landing had their grand opening and open house this afternoon.
