Veterans Honored With Free Turkey Dinner

Posted:

Veterans get to celebrate Thanksgiving early.

Schwan GMC, Capital RV, and Dakota Family Chiropractic Clinic are putting on their 4th annual free turkey dinner for veterans, active military, and their spouses.

Elks Lodge is packed full of smiling faces and it's a day that the area sponsors enjoy celebrating every year.

"Well it's not work. We look at it as fun because we're entertaining these people and it's just a blast. My employees, their employees just really enjoy it. I would like to apologize, first of all, you know we printed 1,000 tickets. I think we could have got 1,500 this year and we'd have still been under so it's gone over good. We promise next year we'll have more tickets available," says Steve Schwan, Bruce Bentz, Byron Blowers, Dinner Sponsors.

The veterans say the food is tremendous.

It's something they look forward to every year and they appreciate being honored.

"I was in the army 50 years ago and it's kind of nice to have somebody like Schwan remembering, hey these veterans, it's a tremendous pleasure to come and enjoy this," says Veteran.

The dinner was served in sections from 11am to noon and noon to 1pm.

The remaining food was donated to the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House.
