New Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant Will Use Natural Gas

Posted: Updated:

A new Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant is coming to Grand Forks.

This evening Northern Plains Nitrogen and a Chinese Engineering company, Cheng Da, sign a memorandum of understanding at the state capitol, meaning the two companies will work together to build the plant.

Cheng Da is a company that specializes in engineering and infrastructure construction.

The new plant will be the first of it's kind in the state, using Natural Gas to make fertilizer.

<<"It will help spur more demand for a product that is currently being underutilized in our opinion out west, because the big supply of Natural Gas coming on board in North Dakota because of the oil and gas activity out west and we'd like to use that product, add value to it, make a product that's going to be used right here by farmers in North Dakota," Darin Anderson said.>>

The plant is expected to be up and running by 2017.
