Christmas Child Program Begins

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of children around the world will have a brighter Christmas thanks to a program that reaches out to churches around the globe.

Operation Christmas Child has distributed gift boxes to more than 100 million boys and girls in 130 countries over the past 20 years.

In Minot, The First Assembly of God church is the collection point for people from across the region.

As of Monday, more than one thousand boxes had been delivered to the church.

And organizers say they hope by the time their shipment leaves the church in one week, they'll be over the three thousand boxes that were donated locally last year.

(Vangie Johnson, Operation Christmas Child) "This year we're hoping to reach the mark of three thousand that was collected last year and go above, maybe 3,500. It would be nice just to have any number - we're so thankful."

You can stop by First Assembly of God church - near KMart - to pick up empty boxes to fill and bring them back to the church by Sunday for delivery to needy kids around the world.
