Gov. Jack Dalrymple says he is forming a panel to increase pipeline safety in the state.
The governor says the group will research the latest technologies to enhance pipeline safety.
He met with officials from a federal agency that regulates pipelines and that group has agreed to put a member of its staff on the state committee.
Dalrymple's move comes after a Tesoro Corporation pipeline ruptured near Tioga this fall, spreading an estimated 20-thousand barrels of crude oil across several acres of a farm field.
The leak was not discovered until man farming the land discovered the oily mess while combining.
