UTTC Goes Tobacco Free

Posted:

United Tribes Technical College is becoming the first tribal college in North Dakota to have a tobacco free campus.

Starting January 1st -- no smoking any where on campus -- not even e-cigarettes.

The goal is to help protect the campus community's health and wellbeing.

The only exception to this policy is the traditional or sacred use of tobacco.

"I have a very small class of students and I already have two who have talked about quitting smoking just within the last two weeks because they knew this was happening," says Pat Aune, Facilitator of the UTTC Wellness Circle.

Again -- the new policy will take effect January 1.

The Centers for Disease Control says tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease.
