Annual Farm Bureau Meeting Talks Farm Bill

Posted:

The future of agriculture is a hot topic in North Dakota.

State officials and farmers gather for the annual farm bureau meeting.

It's a time for the delegate body and farm bureau to discuss resolutions and decide what their policy will be for the upcoming year.

Among these issues is, of course, the farm bill.

Farmers are frustrated with the delay.

Senator Heidi Heitkamp says she remains optimistic that we will still get a farm bill passed yet this year.

"When you get down to the tough stuff, frequently you have a point where people think it's not going to happen and I think there's a lot of desire to get a farm bill yet this year. I think there's going to be a big push when we get back to make that happen. I think American agriculture needs to stand up and say no get it done," says Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

Doyle Johannes, President of the North Dakota Farm Bureau says the big hang up with the farm bill seems to be the nutrition program and getting funding for that.

But he, too says, they're hopeful with where things are going.
