The day before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year...

So this year, the North Dakota Highway patrol is stepping up their enforcement efforts.

Troopers are patrolling statewide to make sure motorists drive safely.

All driving laws are strictly enforced.

Captain Kyle Kirchmeier says traffic has increased throughout the last couple of years with the oil boom.

This year there have been 124 fatal crashes in the state.

"There's more vehicles on the road, there's more trucks on the road than we've ever had before so, you know we want to get the message out that people really need to you know, drive defensively. They need to be patient and take their time," says Capt. Kyle Kirchmeier, ND Highway Patrol.

Kirchmeier encourages drivers to carry a winter survival kit and always be prepared for changing weather conditions.
