A fire in the Sam's Club parking lot this morning drew double takes.

Around 8:45 the Bismarck Fire Department responded to the call of a garbage fire.

A Waste Management driver notices smoke coming from the top of his garbage truck and realized it was on fire.

The driver pulled into the parking lot and emptied the garbage onto the parking lot.

Battalion Chief Rob Carlson says the fire intensified once it was exposed to open air.

The fire department used about 500 gallons of water and foam to get it out.

No one was injured. Waste Management is arranging to have the parking lot cleaned.

Carlson says its common practice to dump contents of a garbage truck if they notice a fire.
