Hutterite Book Causes Stir

Posted: Updated:

For some, it can be said that their lives are like open books.

For nine former Hutterites, that's exactly the case.

The book "Hutterites-Our Story to Freedom" is now available and was written by 9 former Hutterites.

The writers are from 4 different families of two different colonies--one in North Dakota and the other in Manitoba.

The book takes readers through their journeys of living in the colonies, leaving the colonies seven years ago, and how their lives have changed since then.

The book has generated some controversy.

The authors say the book has even been pulled from a few bookshelves.

(Sheryl and Titus Waldner, Former Hutterites)"When someone speaks the truth, there's always going to be someone who comes against it and even say, outright, that it's a lie. Well, I want to just stand with it that the book is the truth and our hearts because we love the Hutterites and it is to set them free from that lifestyle of anyone who is struggling the way we were. And we know there's people like that because we were there. We lived it. It is true."

The group will hold a book signing at Barnes and Noble on December 7th from 1-3.
