Keeping The DOT Road Map Updated

Posted:

If you've been on the roads today, you most likely checked out the DOT map before heading out.

Currently a state wide travel alert is issued for North Dakota.

No travel advised will be issued if roads become too hazardous and unsafe for drivers.

When a storm is blowing in and road conditions are deteriorating, the local DOT forces get together with the highway patrol and make a decision on if a travel alert or no travel advised should be issued.

The DOT map is also very helpful for drivers because it tells you which roads are icy and snowy and which roads are good for travel.

"Those reports are called in by the operators in the plows, they're actually on the roads seeing those conditions, they're out there 365 days a year, weekends, holidays so they're calling in those reports or even as conditions change when they're out plowing roads then they can call in those conditions," Brandon Beise said.

For a look at current road conditions just log onto www.dot.nd.gov.
