A school takes precautions by locking its doors and a neighborhood is temporarily blocked off as law enforcement officials respond to a welfare check of an individual.
A short while after noon Wednesday, SWAT members and Bismarck police started clearing the scene at North 20th Street and Rosser Avenue in Bismarck.
Law enforcement had been called to the neighborhood for a welfare check on an individual who lived in the area.
Nearby Saxvik Elementary school locked its front door temporarily as a safety precaution after a caller reported hearing a single gunshot.
According to police, there was an unattended death and the "scene was rendered safe" around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation, but no foul play was suspected.
