Fire Destroys Part of Chateau Apartment Complex

Fire Destroys Part of Chateau Apartment Complex

Posted: Updated:

Less than two years after flames destroyed much of the Chateau Apartments near Minot's Arrowhead Shopping Center, a huge fire has consumed the new complex that was nearing completion.

The Chateau Apartments went up in flames in February of 2012.  Since then IRET has been busy planning and building a series of connected buildings to take its place.  A 15-unit and 57-unit builder were getting ready for occupancy within the next several months.

Now only smoldering ashes and rubble is left.

The fire call went out about 6:30am Thursday, and when crews arrived on site, the building was quickly being engulfed.  Flaming chunks of building materials were being carried away by a strong wind...and landing in some cases two miles away.  There were some reports of secondary fires near the site, but those they turned out to be nothing major.

There were no reports of injuries in connection with the fire but it did cause millions of dollars in damage.  The 32-unit apartment complex on the west end of the Chateau was evacuated during the blaze, but was not damaged by fire.  Those residents have been allowed back to their homes.
