School Board Votes for Later Start Date

Posted:

The start date of Bismarck Public Schools has been an ongoing debate.

The school board met this evening to determine an official start date for the 2014-2015 school year.

A calendar survey was emailed to parents and posted on the Bismarck Public Schools website.

The survey had four drafts to choose from.

Calendar D was the most popular choice with 44.9 percent.

School would start Tuesday September 2nd and end Thursday June 4.

After much discussion, the board voted to go with Calendar D.

"A, you know, very end of August very start of September start date makes sense. And that's why, after hearing a lot of people's comments, I like draft D. We start on September 2nd. It happens to be after Labor Day this year," says Lawrence King, Board Member.

Only one school board member was opposed...

Last year's school start date was August 20th.
