St. Mary's hunting for a boys basketball title

Bismarck, ND -

The three top scorers from last year for the St. Mary's Boy's Basketball team are back making them a top contender this year for a State title.
This past weekend the Saints kicked off their season with a win backed by an explosive offense.

St. Mary's had three players break 20 points on Saturday in their 93 to 84 win over Fargo Shanley.
With nearly a dozen seniors on the roster-- St Mary's has plenty of depth.
1st year head coach Brent DeKok (Duh-cook) says even with all of those seniors-- his staff is still looking for players to step into a leadership role.

(BRENT DEKOK)"That's something we're really still looking for. Our coaching staff and I have talked about that a lot as the year's gone on or the season progressed here about who is our leader you know. Is that one guy or is it multiple number of guys. With the number of seniors we have We're looking for a number of different people to step up and be that guy and this early in the year with 10 seniors I think some guys are a little apprehensive to step into that role but you know we're still trying to figure out who that guy is. "

The Saints are coming off of a 1st place finish in the WDA last season-- but it didn't translate at the state tournament.
They took sixth for the second straight year at State.
That lackluster finish has St. Mary's hungry for a state championship.

(ROSS KOPP) "The last two years we've had great seasons and we've ended up with sixth place and we always say that the last couple years all that people think about is the two 6th places and so we're trying to improve on that. "
(Ben Weisbeck) "It's definitely helped us to put like a chip on our shoulder and just, it's motivation every single day. We've had that taste of being in first place and I mean trying to bring pride to like the school so we know what our goals are for this season and it's just more motivation for us."
