Oil Refinery Discussed for Devils Lake

Posted:

A new oil refinery may be built near Devils Lake.

American Energy Holdings LLC has plans to build a 20,000 barrel per day refinery employing 50-100 people.

Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson says it's premature to say a deal is done.

But he says, "they have interest in us and we have interest in them."

Johnson says a lot of things have to come together before a deal is finalized.

He says discharge of wastewater is one potential obstacle.

Johnson says the company has a very aggressive timeframe for moving forward. He says they are talking about breaking ground in the spring.

The refinery would produce diesel and aviation fuel.

American Energy Holdings is based in Michigan.

Johnson says the cost to build the refinery is valued at 275 million dollars.

Jeff Holcomb of Larson Engineering announced plans for the refinery on KFYR Radio's Energy Matters program Tuesday afternoon.
