Cold Weather Sets Back Salvation Army Kettle Campaign

Bismarck, ND -

The frigid temperatures last week and wind-chill set back the 2013 Red Kettle campaign.

So far the Salvation Army's largest fundraiser is at only 40% of its goal.

Last year at this time they had hit 60%.

With a week and a half before Christmas, Salvation Army Captain Tim Sell is asking people to step up.

From now until Christmas only 30% of the bell ringing slots are filled.

He says there's something rewarding about volunteering.

"They are passing on a legacy perhaps from parent or grandparent to children or grandchildren because they've been in need and been helped and getting children or grandchildren to understand that even though you may not need the help, there's someone who does," says Sell.

There are 14 red kettle spots around Bismarck-Mandan.

To volunteer contact the Salvation Army at 223-1889.
