ND Heritage Center Receives $600,000 from Leach Foundation

It's the season for gift giving...

and the North Dakota Heritage Center gets a major one.

The Tom and Frances Leach Foundation donates 600 thousand dollars toward the Heritage Center expansion.

The goal is to raise 12 million dollars from private sector donors.

This grant from the Leach Foundation now puts them at more than 11 point six million dollars in private donations to date.

"People are going to love this for years. They're going to come in and celebrate great parts of North Dakota's history. And the Leach Foundation has brought that forward so that we can do that as well. So it's exciting, it's happy," says Merl Paaverud, Director, State Historical Society of ND.

This gift will sponsor The Great Plains Theater in the heritage center, which will be used for historical programs and presentations.

In all, the heritage center will total nearly 52 million dollars.

The grand opening is set for November 2nd, 2014.
