A 40-year-old male died in a head-on collision that occurred at 11:00 am today on a Mountrail County road, six miles north of Palermo.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was traveling south and the other pickup involved, a Dodge 3500, was traveling north.

The driver traveling north, 20-year-old Jacob Mader, saw the other pickup cross the center of the road into his lane.

Mader took action by driving to the right.

The two vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.

Mader was treated for injuries and released from the hospital.

The other driver was pronounced dead on scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
