New Year's Eve Fireworks Sales

Posted:

A fourth of July favorite is back to ring in the New Year.
For the first time ever--fireworks are allowed in North Dakota for New Year's Eve.
Reporter Sarah Gustin has the story.

It's the first year in North Dakota you can ring in the New Year with a bang.
(Chad Neff / Memory Fireworks) "The die hard peoples who know what they want, come in with a smile on their face, the kids come in just excited."
Memory Fireworks is the home to more than 30 locations in North Dakota and Minnesota.
10 of the North Dakota locations are open and ready to celebrate 2014.
(Chad Neff / Memory Fireworks)  "In the snow, it really reflects off of the snow, the crisp air. They look amazing with the bright color with the memory series, the Dakota series out there. We have really been pushing the multi shots and the 500 gram cakes. Light them off, step back and let your family enjoy."
(Sarah Gustin / sgustin@kxnet.com) "Neff says one difference between the summer and the winter season  is the size of the firework. While a roman candle might be popular in the summertime he says that in the winter Tim, the bigger the bet  better."
(Chad Neff / Memory Fireworks) "The bigger 500 gram cakes and the multi shots have been more popular because one people because of the cold like to light them off and watch them go,, and then also with the color. The explosions. The finales in a lot of these fireworks are just great out there. The reloads people have been buying as well. But we have been pushing the multi shots."
(Dylan Barchenger / Flying O Fireworks) "The snow when it's dark and you light them off, it makes them glare. If you light them on the ice or something it will make them light up more."
While that snow does add a unique effect, cold air isn't the best for business.
(Dylan Barchenger / Flying O Fireworks) "It was pretty windy and snowy yesterday. And people weren't really coming through."
Both Flying O and Memory Fireworks expect business to be very busy tonight into tomorrow.

In Bismarck and Lincoln, Fireworks are not allowed in city limits.
The New Year's Eve fireworks in Mandan will be allowed from 5:00 p.m. on December 31st to 1:00 a.m. on January 1st.
