Bismarck City Commissioners Reverse Ruling on Baptist Home

Bismarck, ND -

Residents living near the old Baptist Home in Bismarck are gearing up for round two in their battle to keep a homeless service organization from moving in...

Bismarck City Commissioners have reversed a decision made by the Planning and Zoning Commission denying Ruth Meiers' application for a zoning change.

There will now be a public hearing on the matter.

Ruth Meiers is requesting a zoning change so they can use the building for transitional housing, a food kitchen, clinic along with other services for homeless people.

The Baptist home is near the capitol and near single family residential area.

In a decision filed by Mayor John Warford, the commission says the requested zoning change may be compatible with existing development in the area and that the proposed zoning change may be consistent with public necessity.
