Cats Looking to 2014: New Year Ahead

Posted: Updated:

It was another memorable year for the Bobcats in 2013.
Last May they found themselves right in the mix for the Robertson Cup and just one win away from the championship game.
Layne Sedevie and the Cats look for 2014 to be filled with just as many thrills.
Looking back at 2013-- Layne Sedevie says it's really two different teams you have to evaluate from last spring to this fall.
(LAYNE SEDEVIE/HEAD COACH) "You know i know we didn't win a championship or a Robertson cup which is what we wanted to but I think out of some of the things that we've had that I've been a part of They were obviously very good bunch. If you look at this year I don't think we've played our best hockey yet, I don't think we've had a full roster yet due to all the injuries."
There's a lot Sedevie has seen out of this season's group of players-- but he's still looking for one thing in particular that was a big difference maker for the Cats Last season.
"The character. Some of the guys that I feel like we're missing are a Rory Vessel or a Jeremy O'Keefe, guys that are willing to block shots. I don't think we've bought into the defensive zone of winning a championship. I think it's something that we need to buy into. I think it's an area that we're struggling at now. I think we can score goals I think we can put up points, but we really gotta buy into the defensive side of the puck."
Even with the struggles and injuries Bismarck is still right in the mix at the top of the Central.. Sitting in third place just two points back from 1st place Austin.
"You look at our divisional race I don't think you could take a night off and if you do you're going to find yourself slipping down."
That Cat's are 1 and 2 in their last 3 games.
Bismarck hits the road to take on a dangerous Brookings team on Friday and Saturday.
"I think they're huge I mean they beat a good team last night in the Minnesota Wilderness so we have to go down there. I think they've made some changes and I think they're one of the hottest teams in our division right now."
Last year Bismarck lost to Brookings to open 2013. Sedevie and the Cats will look for a different open to the new year this time around.

Puck drop is set for 7:15 CT on Friday night in Brookings...
