Recruiter Charged with Arson

Bismarck, ND -

A U.S. Marine Corps recruiter in Bismarck is accused of starting seven small fires in the recruiting station where he works and fabricating a story about the incident.

Anthony DeGroot is charged with felony arson charge and a misdemeanor count of giving false information to law enforcement. He could face up to 11 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities say DeGroot set fires in the recruiting station in a strip mall the day after Christmas, causing about $30,000 in damage.

They say he told police he had been knocked unconscious by a visitor and awoke to find himself duct-taped inside a building filling with smoke.
