Valentines for Vets

Posted: Updated:

A nice gesture can go a long way.

That's why one Minot organization is sharing the love just in time for Valentine's Day.

Minot's American Legion Auxiliary is continuing its tradition of making valentines for veterans in the area.

The valentines are hand-crafted by the auxiliary and volunteers.

The valentines are sent to nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, the Minot Air Force Base, and other places in the area.

So far, about 80 valentines have been completed, but the auxiliary is looking for volunteers to make even more to distribute.

The valentines pair well with another auxiliary valentine project--heart-shaped pillows.

Those will be given to heart patients at the veterans hospital in Fargo.

One auxiliary member says the veterans appreciate the kind messages.

(Carol Crabbe, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 26)"A lot of these veterans in veterans homes don't have a lot of people coming to see them. But if they know someone's thinking about it. And I think there's a big appeal when the school children do it. The fact that a little child will make them something is very important to them.">>

The deadline to donate valentines is January 28th.

You can either drop them off at the Salvation Army or you can call 839-8591.
