Historical Society Location

Posted: Updated:

The fate of the Ward County Historical Society at its current location on the state fairgrounds likely appears headed to a judge to decide.

It will bring a final answer to both the North Dakota State Fair Board and the Historical Society on whether or not the museum can be as large as it is on fair property.

Historical Society officials say they believe they will win...but if they don't, they say the decision to move forward elsewhere will be a difficult one.

(Bruce Brooks, Ward County Historical Society) "If we were to move, I think we would just basically end up as a warehouse full of historic and cultural things. Yes, we would have tours and be open but we would get very few visitors and I am not sure it would be worth the money."

The process could move quickly now -- with a final decision from a judge possible even by the end of the month or early in February.
