Bismarck City Commissioners have denied the rezoning request of Ruth Meiers Hospitality House.
Ruth Meiers officials requested a zoning change so they could use the building for a food kitchen, clinic and soup kitchen along with other services for homeless people.
The home was hoping to relocate to the Baptist Home but many area residents signed a petition against it.
Thirty-five people shared their opinions at the public hearing today.
Executive Director of Ruth Meiers, Jaci Bugbee, says they are looking into buying a vacant gas station on N. 14th St. and E. Boulevard Ave. as a back up plan.
Bugbee says their current soup kitchen serves around 40 people a day.
Today they served over 60.
