Watford City Considers Oil Development

Watford City Considers Oil Development

Posted: Updated:

Watford City is the epicenter of the Bakken oil explosion right now.

That's what the president of the Watford City Chamber of Commerce says.

Darick Franzen, who has worked in McKenzie County for about three years for the Spring Capital Group, says the extent of the growth in the region can be seen in the roles of the local chamber.

He says there were about 95 members of the group a year ago, and today there are nearly 200.

Officials from most of those businesses are gathering tonight for the annual meeting of the Watford City Chamber of Commerce.

And Franzen says they'll hear a call to be involved in the state legislative process to assure the area's interests are well-represented in a year when the next session of the state legislature convenes.

(Derick Franzen, Watford City Chamber of Commerce) "A lot of people were disappointed from Williams County, Mountrail County, McKenzie County, many people were disappointed with what happened the last legislative session and as a chamber we're just saying, look, now's the time to get active and get political. If you're here investing millions of dollars that includes investing in the political process and we're just trying to tell the public, get active."

The keynote speaker at tonight's event is a specialist in economics for rural and energy economies.

We will introduce you to him as we look more closely at Watford City's development tomorrow on KX News.
