Blees and Fischer have dynamic rivalry

Posted: Updated:
Bismarck, ND -

Adam Blees and Dane Fischer have a lot in common when it comes to wrestling.
Both are ranked in the top 3 in the state at 145 pounds..
Both train hard in the off-season and neither one of them likes losing.
Its created the best rivalry on the mat in the Capital City this season.
    Jon Schaeffer has more.

Ask Dane Fischer and Adam Blees what they think of each other-- and you get a mutual respect.

(DANE FISCHER) "Adam Blees you know he's a tough wrestler."

(ADAM BLEES) "He's awesome he's a tough kid. Dane is one of my real good friends actually in the off-season all that kind of stuff but he's a great competitor."

Fischer is a senior ranked number one in the state at 145.
Blees is third ranked and only a junior
While they may be friends off the mat-- competition between them is fierce the moment they step into the circle.  Neither one gives in easily.

(SCOTT KNOWLEN) "They're both a couple of solid competitors. I just expect it to be good matches every time out there."

(RICK MATTHERN) "Dane Fischer knows very well there's a kid across town working just as hard as he is."

They may tangle on the mat... but how's this for a twist.
during the off season both of them trained with Adam's older brother Ryan Blees, a nationally-ranked wrestler at BHS.

(ADAM)"He's a great practice partner. He's always there to help me. I mean any question I have stop and help me. Yea it's nice. I like having him in the room with me a lot."

(RYAN)"He's a tough wrestler. I got pounded by him quite a bit, but getting pounded helps me with my mindset and how I should wrestle."

Blees and Fischer met in some of the biggest tournaments on this season's slate... The Mandan Lions and the Rotary.
Their Rotary wrestle-off was one for the ages...

(ADAM) "We went into the overtime tied 1-1."

(DANE) "Going into it I knew it was going to be a pretty tough one."

(ADAM) "I tried tripping him down to the mat and we got into a scramble."

(DANE) "I just kept scrambling. trying to score myself trying not to give it up."

(ADAM) "Came up on the bottom end of it."

(DANE) "It was a pretty big win.I'm sure I'll see Adam again."

While the Rotary was a great battle-- Fischer and Blees both know that their biggest match could possibly come on the biggest stage-- with an Individual state championship on the line.

(Adam) "I get excited when I wrestle someone like Dane.I think it could be a highlight match. Could go either way no matter on the day."

It could write one of the best endings to a rivalry that comes out of the state capital.
