Wahpeton Man Charged with "Sextortion"

Posted: Updated:

In a first for North Dakota, a Wahpeton man has pleaded not guilty to "sextortion."

It's the state's first prosecuted case.

Dustin Coleman is accused of threatening underage girls into doing sexual acts.

Two U.S. Marshals escorted the 21-year-old Coleman into downtown Fargo's federal courthouse this morning to face eight counts, after being accused of intimidating young girls into performing sexual acts in front of a camera, with the intent of producing those images.

Coleman is charged with 3 counts of sexual exploitation of minors, 2 counts of extortion,

and 3 more counts of possession of materials containing child pornography.

Some of the charges involve minors under 12 years old.

Each exploitation charge alone carries a max of 30 years in prison, but Coleman may face a steeper penalty if convicted, because he already has a previous sexual charge.
