Minot Man Pleads Guilty to Rape Charge

Posted: Updated:

A Minot man has admitted to sexually abusing a girl over a five year period while the child was between the ages of 9 and 14.

Chad Kleespie changed his plea to guilty in Northwest District Court this morning.

Kleespie admitted to the Class Double-A Felony charge of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

His attorney said Kleespie hopes that by avoiding a trial in the case - which was scheduled to begin next week - the court will agree to the plea deal worked out with the state.

That would send Kleespie to prison for 20 years and put him on probation for the remainder of his life.

Kleespie's victim says he sexually assaulted her, quote, "nearly every weekend" over a five year period.

Judge Doug Mattson ordered a pre-sentence investigation to help him decide if he will agree to the recommended sentence.

No decision on the sentence will be made until June.
