Heart Screening Day

Posted: Updated:

The American Red Cross is celebrating it's tenth Go Red for Women Day. Each year women wear red to encourage others to learn about cardiovascular diseases.

As women age, their chance of dying from heart disease goes up.

But, this year Doctor Janet Maxson of Trinity Health hospital gives tips that work to prevent traumatic events-- so you can stay happy and healthy.

(Janet Maxson, Doctor) "We have all these wonderful standards of care now, so when somebody has chest pain we have been educating them that you get to the hospital, cause we are doing amazing things now to basically fit it, and then from then on we try to get people to change their lifestyle so they don't have another stroke or another heart attack. Exercise, teach our children to exercise, teach them to eat nutrition cause we have to get back to those basics. Grandma always said, eat healthy, get some exercise, get out of the sun, and don't smoke."
