ND National Guard Conducts Flood Response Exercise

While many people are ready for a warm-up...

North Dakotans always have the threat of flooding... come springtime.

To prepare, the North Dakota National Guard conducts its annual flood response exercise.

The Guard regularly has exercises to build up their emergency preparedness for situations like flooding or other natural disasters.

Each individual in this room represents a different staff section within the joint operations center.

The JOC partners with the department of emergency services and the 68 troop command to make sure they're working together and developing relationships now, rather than in chaos.

"We try to use those things we have learned in past events to make this even more realistic than just doing an exercise. So yes, it prepares us very well on relationships and what our processes will be in case of some event in the future," says Bob Fode, Director of Joint Staff, ND National Guard.

Last spring from April 22nd to May 2nd, soldiers and airmen spent 656 work days providing around-the-clock flood response in Cass County.
