Relay for Life Poker Tournament

Posted: Updated:

Area Texas Hold 'Em players were feeling lucky today as they played for an important cause.

The relay for life team in Carpio has been putting on a poker run for the past several years, raising money, and awareness for cancer.

So members, and non-members of the squad came out to show their support.

A 120 dollar entry fee is required to enter the tournament, and over the years, this event alone has raised over 10 thousand.

The captain of the team in Carpio is a cancer survivor, and says that putting on fund raisers like this is a way to give back to what was given to her when she needed it most.

(Jodi Johnson, Captain of Carpio Relay for Life Team) "Well I think it's important, everybody knows somebody that's been touched by cancer. A family member, or a friend, or somebody. So I think people just like to come out, have a good time, visit, and raise money for the American Cancer Society."

About 2 thousand dollars was raised tonight, and is all going directly to the American Cancer society.
