Minot Air Force Base will soon say 'goodbye' to all of its B-52 bombers.
But it's not a re-deployment or permanent loss of the bombers.
Instead, the nearly two dozen jets are being moved out of Minot to facilitate the completion of an upgrade to the base's only runway.
Base officials say a portion of the runway is under reconstruction, forcing its closure for a while beginning in early April.
The B52s will be temporarily housed at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, South Dakota.
Ellsworth is home to a B-1 bomber wing.
The B52 bombers are expected to return to Minot this fall.
