Heroin Reported in Dickinson

Posted: Updated:

A new report released by the Dickinson Police Department shows an alarming number of new drug arrests happening out west.

Police say there have also been recent overdoses around Dickinson, including one resulting in death.

Captain Joe Cianni says the most alarming reality is that heroin has been introduced into the area.

In 2012, they had no cases of heroin arrests.

In 2013, they had ten arrests related to it.

All drugs are a concern, but police say right now heroin is the biggest because of the high mortality rate that goes along with the drug.

"Now we're seeing that there's a huge resurgence of heroin specifically, many cases, and that is one of the more dangerous drugs that are out there, there is a high mortality rate with first use of heroin and we have had overdoses in the community recently." says Capt. Joe Cianni, Dickinson Police Department.

A local drug taskforce has added an agent in the Dickinson area, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation has a new agent on the way hired to deal specifically with drug arrests.
