Shooting Erupts During Burglary Attempt

Posted: Updated:

An attempted burglary led to a shootout, arrests, and the confiscation of almost one pound of meth in the Minot area Sunday.

Investigators say a man reported a burglary had happened at

his home in southeast Minot Sunday morning.

The man said the suspects fired shots at him and he returned fire.

No one was hit by any of the gunshots.

Detective Bob Barnard of the Ward County Sheriff's Department says there were three shots fired.

(Capt. Bob Barnard - Ward Co. Sheriff's Dept.) "It's our understanding that the resident of the home called and said he believed he was being burglarized. Somehow during that event, the alleged suspects fired a couple shots and the homeowner also fired a shot."

Three suspects were later stopped driving a car that had been seen leaving the scene.

The men were arrested and officers reported finding 96-thousand dollars worth of meth, two handguns, and drug paraphernalia.

23-year-old Jonathon Held-the-second, is facing charges of a felon in possession of a gun, possession of a concealed firearm, and a Class-Double-A Felony charge of intent to deliver meth.

30-year-old Brandon Bigham was charged with four crimes, including the Double-A Felony charge of intent to sell meth.

And 29-year-old Jared Rose was also charged with intent to deliver meth.

A Double-A Felony carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

A fourth person, 24-year-old Joshua Jensen has been charged with four felonies in the incident, three related to drugs and a fourth for endangerment of a child.
