An Unusual Face Off Takes Place at Center Ice

Posted: Updated:

The Mandan ice rink hasn't seen a face off like this before.

Courtney Plante takes us to the arena for more.

The Braves hockey team is used to being on the ice -- but this game is a bit different.

Sonja Tkach and Michael Yantzer are tying the knot at center ice.

It's a story started in high school -- and finished 20 years later.

"A journey that was long, but worth it," said Sonja Tkach, bride.

Sonja and Michael met at this same arena -- he played hockey, she was a cheerleader.

They say it's only fitting to get married where it all began.

The couple's starting line-up includes family and friends from high school.

"We've all been friends for a very long time. To see these guys get married after all this time it's pretty cool," said Dwight Leingang, groomsman.

They may not have had cold feet before -- but they do now.

Reporting in Mandan for KX News, I'm Courtney Plante.

They haven't decided on a honeymoon spot yet -- but they know it will be somewhere warm.
