Looking For Winning Women

Posted: Updated:

The YWCA will honor several women in April as a part of an annual fundraiser.

Right now, they're inviting you to get involved in nominating honorees

Melinda Bolton has more on the upcoming celebration.

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "The 21st Annual Women of Distinction Celebration is rapidly approaching, and it will benefit the YWCA behind me."

(Erica Gade, High School English Teacher) "It was a total surprise. I just got a letter in the mail that said, 'You have been nominated and won this award' and I thought, 'What is this? I don't even know what this is."

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "It was an award for Distinction in Education. And ten other women received similar letters."

(Erica Gade, High School English Teacher) "I was impressed by just the humility of all these people. They were people who just faithfully served in whatever capacity they were in, whatever business they were in and all sorts of different businesses. But noone expected that they would be an award-winner for anything. And they were just as surprised as I was."

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "Any woman in the eight counties served by the YWCA can be nominated for a variety of awards."

(Sana Keller, President, YWCA Board of Directors) "We want to honor women who are just going above and beyond what most people would imagine them to do. And we don't know who they are so we're really asking the viewers to be able to help us out and send us nominations of these worthy women so we can honor them appropriately."

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "This celebration empowers women but it is also the biggest fundraiser of the year for the YWCA."

(Sana Keller, President, YWCA Board of Directors) "This is what keeps it open and this is what keeps us doing what we do. Because it's such a need, and I can't imagine Minot being without it. It's sad to think that we have a waiting list. Our goal is to be able to provide services and resources in a timely enough manner in a great enough region to prevent any kind of wait list"

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "The eleven award recipients will be celebrated on April eleventh, right here at the Grand Hotel. In Minot, Melinda Bolton, KX News."
