Bizarre Chase in Casselton as Cow Alludes Authorities

Posted:

A cow on the loose caused quite the commotion in Casselton today.

On his way to the butcher shop, the cow clearly wanted to go out with a bang... and didn't let anyone stand in his way.

Reporter Kay Cooley has more on this one of a kind cow chase.

He's quick on his feet, I know that!

Maybe it's the kind community. Or unseasonably sunny weather that came calling.

Halverson: It's probably a little different.

Or mooing rather.

Halverson: The dog didn't like it.

But if you ask me... I'd say this big guy made a mad dash for freedom.

Craig Halverson/Casselton: I actually watched him walk through my yard.

Wandering through Casselton's calm streets and quiet backyards for hours after escaping from the meat processing plant.

Cow Owner/Durbin, ND: He ended up kicking the fence and getting it open. It was coming right at me so it was either get kicked or trampled or move.

Halverson: They said there's a beef running around town and I said, I see that!

But you really have to see it... To believe it. Take a look at this home video... This cow is quick.

Owner: Ended up chasing him down since about 10 after 9.

Sometimes running.. Other times taunting the crowds trying to corral him home.

Owner: Probably put 10 miles on running around after him.

Kay: Right now it's just a waiting game. They've used tranquilizers and are hoping the cow just gets too tired to stand up.

Halverson: Get him back home where he belongs.

So while some might spend their final days at the mountains or beach..

Instead of the butcher... this beastly bovine chose Casselton.

Owner: He knows what that place might be and he just didn't want to go in there so his last chance at getting out.

Like any adventure.. His too eventually had to end.

But not without a fight, and four extra hours of freedom.

Owner: It only happens in North Dakota I guess hahaha.
