World Renowned Composer Visits Mandan Middle School

It's not a normal band class for a group of students in Mandan.

Today, they get to learn from a world renowned composer and conductor.

Rob Grice is originally from Alabama but music has taken him all over the world.

He's spent the last two years teaching in China.

Grice is in town this week conducting the Junior High All-State band, but takes time to work with these aspiring musicians at the middle school.

"I just love the connection and bond that it creates with people. When you create music and watching them become involved with it and you know, being involved with it. Especially when it catches their imagination - what the music's all about. I don't know, I just enjoy doing it," says Rob Grice, World Renowned Composer & Conductor.

"It's been really neat to know that we've played his music and to actually have him come in was really cool and to help us work with it," says Taylor, 7th Grader.

"It's crazy where music can take you," says Sophie, 7th Grader.

Music also took Grice to teach in Oman - a country in the middle east.

Grice says he first began writing music for his school band when he was in high school.
