Ladyjacks Headed to National Tournament

Posted: Updated:

The Dakota College of Bottineau Ladyjacks basketball team will also make history when they play top seeded Northern Iowa Community College tomorrow in opening round play of the NJCAA division 2 women's basketball national tournament.

The Ladyjacks qualified for the tournament for the first time ever and will come in as the 16th and final seed in the tournament. The team had a sendoff last Friday and is hoping leave an impression to basketball fans in Kansas.

Wayne Johnson, Ladyjacks Basketball Coach:You know our idea is going down there and having just a good time just taking everything in, I just hope we don't, we're not so much in awe that we forget why we're down there which is to play the game you know but I don't think we will. I really don't. I was impressed with our girls the other night and we watched a little tape on the team we're playing and they're an outstanding team. They're the number one seed in the tournament so we're gonna have our hands full but when we were done I asked the girls, what do you think and their comment was, we'll play better defense than that team they're playing you know so if they come in with that kind of attitude it'll be great. We'll play hard and we'll do the best we can.

Leah Parizek, Sophomore:I feel like we have a lot of momentum we're playing our best basketball at the end of the year and that's awesome. We have some freshmen that have been stepping up, Whitney Brandvold has been playing awesome, Savannah Bruce has played hard and Imani Scott really shot the ball well in tournament play so it's, we're going in with a lot of momentum.

Imani Scott, Freshman:We didn't have much team chemistry in the beginning but we finally got it together towards the end and I think it came around as like at a good time.

Savannah Bruce, Sophomore:We have a lot of fire underneath our feet right now. All of us are excited and ready to roll.
