St. Mary's High School Raises Money for Trinity

At St. Mary's High School in Bismarck, the kids have dressed up for Spring Week.

Today is "Dress Your Age."

The seniors are dressed as senior citizens, and the freshman are dressed as babies.

But don't be fooled by their silly outfits...

Students at St. Mary's are showing their true colors...with what they're doing... for students at another school.

"It made me sick to my stomach, I couldn't believe that, someone would do that," says Sommer Wild, Senior.

Word of what happened to Dickinson Trinity school-- spread across the state...

"It was very sad to hear, we have lots of friends out there, so that it kind of hit home with us, we wanted to help them out right away," says Becky Mastel, Senior.

"I have family and friends there and they called me bawling, it was so hard to see them go through something like that," says Wild.

"It was really hard to hear what happened to them and think of what that would be like, and just being in high school and having that happen to your high school," says Katie Mastel, Junior.

Trinity students were forced to be displaced throughout the Dickinson school district, after a fire believed to be caused by arson... severely damaged their high school.

It's still hard for students at St. Mary's High School in Bismarck... to even imagine.

"We spend hours upon hours here, I can't even imagine not knowing your way around the building that you're going to, especially for the seniors, not being able to graduate at your own high school, or having your senior prom, or different things like that," says Wild.

"We do rival against each other but we all come together at the end of the day, help each other out at the end of the day whenever we need it," says Mastel.

To show support...students around 100 miles away... are reaching out...

"This was just something where we felt like these guys are part of our family and we got to reach out and help them in any way we can," says Mastel.

The Light of Christ Catholic Schools of Excellence are collecting money to donate back to Trinity.

"We kind of came up with the idea of calling it the Change Race," says Mastel.

At St. Mary's they are making it a competition between the grades.

"We've been trying to keep a tally everyday, see who is ahead, kind of puts a target on the class that's ahead, but really good strategy to get everybody involved from all different classes," says Mastel.

But it's more than a fundraiser... especially for these three.

It's a family.

"I think they'll recognize it's more than just the money, and that they'll feel like they're loved," says Mastel.

"We're standing along with them, Titan Strong," says Wild.

Tomorrow is the last day for the fundraiser.

Tomorrow students will also be wearing red in honor of the Trinity Titans.

Whichever class raises the most money, gets an incentive.

If seniors do, they get two free sweat pants days.
